Test Results Follow-Up – Patient FAQs

Your guide to how we manage and communicate test results

 

How will I receive my test results?

  • Non-urgent results:
    You will receive a message requesting an appointment to discuss results via SMS (text message) within 7–10 days of receipt of your test results

  • Urgent results:
    Your GP or a designated staff member will contact you directly by phone if your results require immediate follow-up.

 

Do I need to call the practice for my results?

 We will contact you automatically via SMS or phone once your results are reviewed.
However, if you have ongoing symptoms or concerns, feel free to call and book an appointment.

 

What if I don’t hear back after my test?

If you don’t hear from us within 10 days, please contact reception to check on your results.
We aim to follow up every result, but it’s important to stay proactive with your health.

How do I know you’ve received my results?

All tests ordered through our practice are tracked in our secure system.
Once results arrive, they are reviewed by your GP, and you’ll be contacted accordingly.

 

What if my results need follow-up?

If follow-up is needed:

What if I don’t respond to your messages?

We’ll make two contact attempts via SMS or phone.
If we still don’t hear back and the result is important, we may:

  • Send a

  • Consider (e.g. welfare check) based on clinical judgement

 

Is my privacy protected when results are sent by SMS?

Yes.
We only send messages to the mobile number you have provided and consented for use.
No detailed medical information is included in the SMS.

 

Can I choose not to receive results via SMS?

Yes.
Please inform our reception if you prefer not to receive SMS communications.
You’ll be contacted via phone or asked to return for a follow-up appointment instead.

 

What if I need to discuss my results in more detail?

You’re always welcome to:

  • Book an appointment with your GP (in-person or telehealth)

  • Discuss your results further, especially if symptoms persist or new concerns arise
